Non-Profit Work

<dev/Mission>

At <dev/Mission> I designed a curriculum and taught beginner programming to youths in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. My class was one segment of a larger multi-week program, and it focused on programming servo motors using the Particle IOT dev kit. I created a little fortune teller game for the youths to assemble and play with. The code was taught line-by-line but was flexible enough to let the kids be creative and make it their own.

Jeremiah Program

Jeremiah Program is one of my favorite non-profits of all time. They aim to solve poverty, two generations at a time, by helping new mothers get an education. It’s a holistic program that includes a nursery and daycare. In college and after graduating, I spent time at Jeremiah program taking care of infants and young kids while their mothers were in life-skills classes or at school or work.

Reading Partners

Reading Parters pairs tutors with kids in elementary school who are falling behind in their reading. As a tutor, I worked one on one with kids over the course of a semester, giving them focused attention, and caring direction to improve their reading and comprehension. I am an avid reader and love being around books. Getting to share this with anyone, especially little kids, was an incredibly rewarding experience.

Engineers Without Borders

I worked on multiple EWB programs while at the U of M, mostly as the Student Technical Lead for the Honduras Project. The project involved designing a gravity-flow water system that was to service about 5,000 people over 20 years.
